Differences Between Eyelid Surgery and Brow Lifts

Eyelid Surgery vs Forehead LiftA common Los Angeles facial cosmetic surgery problem is drooping eyelids. The eyes are the windows to the soul, and drooping and hooded eyes can obscure their brightness, making the face appear older and less expressive. Luckily, sagging eyelids can be corrected by eyelid surgery or a forehead lift, also known as a brow lift.

If you are unhappy with your appearance, you can change it through skilled cosmetic surgeons in Los Angeles. One of the doctors of Westside Face will schedule a consultation to evaluate your plastic surgery needs. They will then explain the differences between an eyelid lift and a brow lift, including which option is best for your face shape and age.

Plastic surgery can help your eyes seem more alert and intriguing, as well as provide more space to show eye makeup. Celebrities that have been rumored to have undergone an eye lift or brow lift are Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber. Many women over the age of 40 often choose this procedure to take years off their face.

The key difference between brow lifts and eyelid procedures in Los Angeles is that an eyelid lift is more common since it works for more people. With eyelid wrinkle reduction, the upper lids are improved and the brows are not moved. An eyelid lift typically results in more precise results that have greater anti-aging effects.

The brow lift, however, lifts the sagging upper eyelid skin by pulling the brows higher on the face, and this does not work for everyone. Certain face shapes will not look good with elevated eyebrows, but this is something your plastic surgeon can go over with you during your consultation. Additionally, it may not fix all your wrinkles.

Eyelid Lift

An eyelid lift is also referred to in the medical industry as blepharoplasty, and it’s geared towards fixing droopy eyelids by cutting away excess skin, muscle, and fat that sags as you age.

After years of supporting your eyes, it’s natural for the skin, muscle, and fat to weaken. The excess skin causes droopy eyelids, and it can even obscure your peripheral vision. Eyelid surgery can also correct crow’s feet on the corners of your eyes. By removing this extra skin, the eyes appear more youthful and more alert, and it can even help you see better.

Similarly, an eyelid lift can also be done when you notice that undereye bags are forming. Removing the bags from under your eyes makes your face appear much more rested.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Prior to your eyelid lift, one of the cosmetic surgeons of Westside Face will meet with you to discuss your medical history and have an honest discussion about your expectations and potential results.

Blepharoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure, meaning there’s no overnight stay and you will go home after it’s over. Your surgeon will inject a local anesthetic into your eyelids and give you a relaxing medication, if needed.

The procedure consists of cutting along the natural fold of the eyelid, removing the excess skin, muscle, and fat, and then closing the cut. Since the doctor cuts along the natural fold of the eyelid, scarring is typically not very visible.

Following the procedure, it’s important to maintain a cold compress to reduce any post-surgery swelling. If you wear contact lenses, you should stick to glasses for about two weeks after surgery. If you plan on being outside for long periods of time, you should wear sunglasses to protect your eyelids from the sun and wind.

Brow Lift

A brow lift can correct both signs of aging and naturally hooded brows to give the face a more alert and youthful appearance. Brow surgery is desirable because it can fix multiple issues, including a wrinkled forehead, frown lines, hooded brow, and sagging eyelids.

If your neutral expression trends more towards sad or angry-looking, then a brow lift may work for you. Many find that they look happier and friendlier following the procedure.

Since a forehead lift involves pulling your eyebrows upward, it’s important to discuss your cosmetic surgery goals with your doctor. A brow lift may not solve all of your sagging eye area problems, and you may need to accompany the surgery with blepharoplasty or a facelift.

Brow Surgery Procedure

In your consultation with a Westside Face surgeon, they will assess your facial insecurities and choose which options are best for you, considering your hairline and face shape. Your doctor can work with you to ensure that your lift will leave you with minimal scarring and the best improvement to your appearance.

Your procedure will be an outpatient service, and it will typically take less than three hours while you are under local anesthesia and sedation. A doctor performing brow surgery carefully cuts away excess fat and skin. They then tighten the muscles in the forehead area, correcting sagging brows and other wrinkles.

The scarring that results from a brow lift is typically situated right at the hairline, making it difficult to notice. Those with receding hairlines may shy away from this procedure due to more noticeable scarring, but your surgeon may be able to work with you for a solution with less visible scarring.
